What 12 months actually gives you that a weekend never can
I want to talk about something that I think about often as a breathwork trainer & teacher.
There are a lot of breathwork certifications available right now: Weekend trainings, Six-week programs, Twelve-week online courses...and I understand why they are appealing. They are accessible, and they are affordable, and they speak to the urgency many feel when the call to serve arrives.
However, I want to be honest with you because I think you deserve honesty more than you need a sales pitch.
A weekend teaches you a technique and how to make a playlist
12 months teaches you how to be with another human being in their most open, most vulnerable, most expanded state and hold that with steadiness, skill, and grace.
Those are not the same thing. The difference between them is not just about depth of knowledge or professional credibility.
The difference is about safety.
Let me say that again, because I think it is the most important thing I will share with you as I prepare for this next Co Hort.
The difference is about safety.
Conscious connected breathwork is a powerful medicine. When someone enters a full breathwork session, they are not simply doing a breathing exercise. Their nervous system is activating. Old trauma may begin to surface. Emotional material that has been held in the body for years, sometimes decades, can begin to move. The breather may enter non-ordinary states of consciousness or they may experience physical responses, emotional releases, or spiritual openings that require a skilled, grounded, and knowledgeable facilitator to hold and navigate with care.
A facilitator who has completed a weekend training has learned a technique. They have not had the time to develop an embodied understanding of trauma; what it looks like, how it moves, how to work with it without amplifying it or inadvertently retraumatizing the person in front of them.
They have not had the time to truly understand contraindications, the physical, psychological, and emotional factors that mean this style of breathwork is not appropriate for certain people at certain times, and which, if missed, can cause real harm. They have not had time to develop the nervous system regulation, the presence, and the personal depth of self-awareness that holding this space genuinely requires.
You cannot intellectually understand trauma in a weekend. You cannot embody it. You cannot truly understand what it means to hold a 'safe' container for another person's process in six weeks. These things take time. It requires time to study, time to practice, time to sit with your own material, time to make mistakes in supervised settings where guidance is available, and time to integrate what you are learning into who you are becoming. You wouldn't want to see a Doctor who only had 12 weeks of training or a therapist who took a quick course online.
This is not gatekeeping. This is care.
It is care for the people who will one day lie on a mat in front of you and trust you with their breath, their body, and their becoming.
Our training gives you 12 months and those 12 months are not filled with content for content's sake. They are a carefully architected journey of personal transformation and professional development that moves in layers, each building on the last.
You begin with yourself.
Your own breath, your own nervous system, your own patterns and edges and places of resistance. The Presence Process asks you to become a clear vessel before you ever consider holding space for someone else.
You move into the science, the science of Functional Breathing with Patrick McKeown, nervous system awareness with Steph Magenta, and the psychology of trauma with Jennifer McKeever. This is not surface-level content. This is the kind of understanding that gives you genuine confidence and competence in the room.
You go deeper into the sacred; wisdom sessions as additional learning and the Seven Grandfather Teachings with Maya Dancing Wolf, ritual, and the weaving of the invisible with the visible because breath is not just a physiological event. It is a meeting place between the body and something much greater.
And woven through our entire curriculum: ethics, boundaries, the Wheel of Consent, diversity, and inclusivity, because integrity is not an add-on. It is the foundation.
A weekend certification cannot give you this.
Neither can six weeks.
What they can give you is a starting point. And if that starting point is what you need right now, I honour that. But if you are someone who knows, in your bones, that you want to do this properly, that you want to graduate with genuine competence and confidence, that you want to stand in front of a group of people and hold their breath with real skill, real depth, and real safety, then this is the training that was built for you.
Twelve months. 400+ hours. A community that walks beside you every step of the way.
I would love for you to see everything this container holds. The full curriculum is waiting for you here:

I am building something here with Seven Directions here in North America, Turtle Island, that I believe in it all deeply. And I believe the right people will find their way to it.
Perhaps you are one of them.
